Over the years, UK TV has degenerated drastically. It is now full of dull reality TV shows (far too many of them) and mundane soap operas.
There are a few good shows such as Doctor Who, The Office, and very few others versus the deluge of reality TV “I’m a celebrity” trash. And of course the few good shows we have usually end up with an American spin-off (US version of The Office, and the forthcoming US version of The IT Crowd) … but that’s not necessarily a bad thing as after all right now it’s the USA we have to look to for decent TV shows now (as much as I hate to admit it).
The UK just cannot compete with what the US studios are producing… just take a look at House (the lead character is English! 
), 24, Criminal Minds, to name just a few and you will find nothing to compare these shows with.
But the USA does have one big problem though … its networks tend to cancel good and popular shows. Take Jericho, for example, which was cancelled only a few days ago. It has a huge following and a very engaging storyline to go with it. Going by a poll currently on TV.com, it can also be considered CBS’s most popular show at this time. So I cannot imagine the shows cancellation was due to lack of popularity, maybe we will never find out why.

Perhaps one day the UK can again produce shows of such high quality (i.e. Only Fools And Horses is a definite benchmark when it comes to comedies)…
