Intelligence To Be Axed?

Is Canadian TV show Intelligence going to be axed? A post on The Tyee certainly seems to suggest so. It would be a shame if CBC did axe it as it is a quality show. The acting is great, the storyline is one of the best I’ve come across and it all combines to keep you impatient for the next episode.

For those of you not in the know, Intelligence is a Vancouver-based crime drama about an Organised Crime boss (Jimmy Reardon - played by Ian Tracey) turned informant for the Organised Crime Unit (OCU) - specifically a CI for Vancouver OCU Directory Mary Spalding (played by Klea Scott). Some of you may think of The Sopranos when watching it, but for sure it’s better. Like The Sopranos, there’s a strip club, but throw in a biker gang out to take Jimmy’s business, an OCU assistant director gunning for Maria’s job, major weed deals, a brother who can get out of control and a crazy ex-wife… you’ve got a hit show full of twists and turns.

The show is also in that cool Canadian style (in the same way Trailer Park Boys is too) which only helps to put it head and shoulders above similar American shows. A bit less action (it’s not a negative though) and a bit more story than American offerings too, so it definitely has longevity.

If you haven’t checked it out yet then for sure you should - you won’t be disappointed.

EDIT: There was a petition but it was closed down… a new one has been started up, so if you like the show and want to see a third season then sign the Save CBC’s Intelligence Petition.

A Few Alternatives For Buffy And Angel Fans

After the cancellation of Buffy The Vampire Slayer (2003) and Angel (2004), along with little hope of even a made-for-TV film concluding Angel, fans of the vampire and demon-filled universe Joss Whedon had created were left with an unfilled void which no TV show at that time seemed to be able to fill. However, in 2007 that has changed: there are a couple of interesting TV shows and the continuation of Buffy’s and Angel’s stories in their own comics.

Buffy’s comic is Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8, which was published by Dark Horse Comics, and the first issue was released on 14 March 2007. The comics follow on from where the TV series left off and Joss Whedon is, of course, involved in the writing so fans are assured of quality. :) It does of course feature the "Scooby Gang" and guest appearance from an old "favourite" - Spike! The comics have been very successful and look set to run longer than the originally planned 25 issues.

An Introduction To The Trailer Park Boys

While searching through YouTube, I found an awesome video called “Trailer Park Boys Canadian Social Studies Project” which is a good introduction to TPB for anyone who has not yet watched it (and why not?!?) .. it’s a great show from Canada, about (primarily) 3 guys called Ricky, Julian and Bubbles who are always getting in to trouble. It’s filmed like a documentary, but it is fictional (i.e. a mockumentary) .. don’t be put off by its documentary style and low-budget experience because it’s truly hilarious … probably one of the funniest shows you’ll ever see.

UPDATE 06/07/2007: Unfortunately, the video is no longer available on YouTube, however check out the boys talking about the TPB book which is an essential guide to the show.

So check it out if you’re curious and then get watching the films and mockumentary series for real!

A Great Jericho Video And Crop Artwork

I was browsing around YouTube and found a great video, Jericho Wars, from the Save Jericho campaign. A campaign that one can say was won, but only to a certain extent; the battle now is to get a full second season AND for it to be renewed for a third. The fight is still on; join the fight at Jericho Rally Point.

A cool photograph (below) was posted on Jericho Rally Point … it’s an amazing example of crop artwork and additionally a wonderful piece of Jericho art that fans will surely enjoy.

But finally… we can’t forget Greensburg, Kansas where the survivors of a ferocious Tornado are rebuilding their lives.
