.. of screaming teenage girls, often referred to as "teenieboppers", going crazy over boybands. It really wasn’t a pleasant flashback … the last thing I want to remember is the (terrible) music produced by the endless number of manufactured bands that were around then (and I guess some still are today).
My flashback was thanks to an article in the metro newspaper about former Boyzone member, Stephen Gately, who recently married with his gay partner in London.
It brought a smile to my face. All those girls who were crazy about him (many will profess to have wanted to marry him, I’m sure) never had a chance.
I know it’s a better world for my ears in 2006 now that it’s 6 years since Boyzone split up.
For those of you who don’t know, Boyzone was a band from Ireland. Their existence was for about 6-7 years (1993-2006), nothing particularly original about them but they catered to young teenage girls with their so-called good looks and dodgy dance routines. In those days, that was enough to guarantee a hit.
So if you too want to become famous… slap on a load of gel and make up the silliest dance possible. Don’t worry about a song or lyrics, someone else can write (and even sing) those for you. Or better - perform cover-versions of already famous songs. Just remember, originality is not required.
