Robert Ludlum is without doubt a fantastic author. I have to admit, at first I was a bit apprehensive about reading the book I found by him, The Cassandra Compact, however I was not disappointed (even though the title sounds like a female cosmetic product).
The Cassandra Compact is from the Cover One series of books about Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Jon Smith, M.D., who is a member of a top secret US intelligence agency (oddly enough named covert one). The series is based upon unpublished material left behind by Robert after his death in 2001.
On to the story line of the second book in the series. Officially, Smith works for the United States Army Military Research Institute for Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) which helps provide a good cover for his race over the globe to find and stop a lethal strain of small pox being used.
Along the way, Smith meets various interesting characters and gets in to a variety of trouble. I found it difficult to put the book down. What would happen next? Would Jon get out of this situation? I had to have the answers… certainly compulsive reading. Don’t believe me? Then read it and enjoy as much as I did.
