Andy McNab’s Latest Book - Crossfire

Andy McNab’s latest book, Crossfire, is shortly to be released. In fact, it will be available from November 3, 2007, and is one book I am eagerly anticipating (along with many other people, I’m sure). :-)

Crossfire places the stories hero, Nick Stone, in Basra (Iraq) as bodyguard for a TV crew. It’s dangerous times and during an insurgent attack Nick, the man hired to protect people, is the one saved by a reporter. Mysteriously, though, the reporter disappears shortly after the attack and curiously Nick’s old masters, the intelligence service, ask Nick to find him. What interest could SIS have in a reporter?

The search leads Stone to travel to several countries and finally ending up in Kabul. This is where things take a bad turn and Nick suddenly becomes the hunted. Will Stone survive, or will he die in the Crossfire?

Like every book Andy McNab writes, it is sure to be a page-turner and perhaps one I should leave for a day off work as I know I won’t be able to put it down until I’ve reach the end. Fortunately, it’s also currently available for half-price at Amazon - that’s right, £9.49 for the hardback, which is a bargain when compared to waiting several months for the paperback copy (which will be released in June 2008).

Book Review: Aggressor (Andy McNab)

Another work of genius from Andy McNab DCM MM. Not only is he a true English hero and perhaps the most famous SAS member ever, but he is also one of the best English authors of the past few hundred years. He’s personally my favourite author of all time, but anyway … on to his latest book in the Nick Stone series:

Nick’s adventure this time starts out in sunny Australia … he’s finally left behind his life as a deniable operator and living a happy life, for once. He’s met a lovely German girl and it seems life is no longer full of the twists and turns it used to be … until he visits an old friend.

Robert Ludlum - The Cassandra Compact

Robert Ludlum is without doubt a fantastic author. I have to admit, at first I was a bit apprehensive about reading the book I found by him, The Cassandra Compact, however I was not disappointed (even though the title sounds like a female cosmetic product).

The Cassandra Compact is from the Cover One series of books about Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Jon Smith, M.D., who is a member of a top secret US intelligence agency (oddly enough named covert one). The series is based upon unpublished material left behind by Robert after his death in 2001.

On to the story line of the second book in the series. Officially, Smith works for the United States Army Military Research Institute for Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) which helps provide a good cover for his race over the globe to find and stop a lethal strain of small pox being used.

Along the way, Smith meets various interesting characters and gets in to a variety of trouble. I found it difficult to put the book down. What would happen next? Would Jon get out of this situation? I had to have the answers… certainly compulsive reading. Don’t believe me? Then read it and enjoy as much as I did. :)

Poem: It Was One Of Those Days

… that you wish you’d slept through.
… had just never happened.
… that you wish will never happen again.
… that just plain sucks!

… sucks for so many reasons…

A Funny Essay On Oedipus

Whether this is really an assignment someone handed in, or just a joke, I do not know. However, regardless of that, the essay is very funny and at the same time clever. :)
